Welcome to
Little Lamb’s Bakery
Hey, there..
My name is Kirsty and I run a small bakery based in Sandbach – it is just myself and my kitchen (and my beautiful pistachio KitchenAid). Occasionally I have two mini sous bakers in the shape of my little boys…although they are less helpful and more inclined to eat what I bake!
Baking wasn’t my first passion in life. When I was younger my forays into baking were not the most adventurous and included helping my Mum make nest cakes for Easter and birthdays (also known as licking out the bowl) and making Yorkshire puddings for roast dinners on a Sunday. After my A Levels I decided to study Fashion Design – nothing to do with baked treats at all! Although I enjoyed the course, made some fabulous friends and my final collection was shown on the catwalk at Graduate Fashion Week, the world of fashion was not for me.Â
But it did remind me how much I love to draw and paint and be creative. Just after graduating, my Mum was having a surprise 60th birthday party organized by my Dad, brother, sister and myself – I volunteered to cater for the party. I planned a great feast and decided we would need a range of cakes too (maybe a little over eager of me considering my baking prowess). But I raided the few baking books I had and with the help of my husband we cooked and baked and the party was a success.Â
My love of baking was born…along with my baking book obsession! In my spare time I alternated between drawing and baking, wondering if I could find a way to combine the two. Soon, friends and family began requesting drawing commissions and baking orders from me but I had to do these around my job at the time, not feeling confident enough to do it full time. Whilst I was on maternity leave with my first son, I did a cake decorating class (with my Auntie-in-law!) and decided to take the plunge. I opened two Etsy shops – one for my artwork and one for my biscuits – and set up an Instagram account for each too. You may think art, fashion and baking have nothing in common but modelling cake toppers and designing garments using moulage is not so different and I often paint on my baked treats (with edible paints not my painting inks)!
The name of my bakery is personal – before marrying my name was Lamb and I always wanted to use Lamb when signing off on any of my creative achievements. But when we lost my Dad to cancer, my choice to keep using Lamb became even more important. It is my way of keeping him with me, when I’m whipping up baked treats in the kitchen, painting an art commission or writing my next children’s book – I hope he will be proud.

About my
Books
The stories I have written and illustrated have been inspired by my bakes and my family, especially ‘The Tale of Chocolate Bob,’ after our beloved bumbling bear. I wanted the cupcakes in particular to have a story behind them; one which would capture a little child’s heart and smile and make them fall in love with both reading and baking at a young age.Â
Reading with your child is such an important part of their development, both from a literary and educational standpoint but also in terms of the relationship and bond between a parent and a child. Everyday their independence grows and the time you get with them, to read them a story at bedtime in particular, is so finite. I hope my stories will encourage a lifelong love of reading, but also an interest in baking. Baking with your children can be a messy, stressful experience but it’s also hilarious and wonderful and teaches them patience and how to follow instructions.
